******************** * INSTALLING X.500 * ******************** This section explains how to install the X.500 software. This demonstration assumes that all hardware requirements are met and that the required software has been successfully installed. This demonstration also assumes that HP X.500 has not been installed on your system. PRODUCT REQUIREMENTS ==================== Before you can install the X.500 software, you should have the following hardware and software: Hardware: * HP 9000 Series 800 * 8 MB (or more) of memory * 20 MB of disk space (about 12 MB are required to load the filesets) * Tape drive for updates and system backups * 802.3 (LAN) card or X.25 card Software: * HP-UX Operating System 9.0 or later * OSI Transport Services/9000 version C.04.00 * LAN or X.25 * Network tracing and logging HOW TO INSTALL X.500 ==================== To install X.500, do the following: 1. Log in as root 2. Move the /etc/net/osi/ots/OTSuserconf file if it exists 3. Type "/etc/update" a. Select "Change Source or Destination" to alter source to the appropriate device or file and press the [Enter] key. Follow the instructions. b. Select "Load Everything from Source Media" to install all partitions required by X.500 and press the [Enter] key. Follow the instructions. 4. When the update program completes, check the /tmp/update.log file for any errors 5. Type "cd /usr/lib/x500" 6. Type "./x5install" 7. After x5install completes, type "x5verify -icv" to verify the installation The version numbers should be A.00.00 or greater. 8. Log in as user x500 and type "x5otsinit" You have successfully installed the HP X.500 Distributed Directory software.
